There's a trail that crosses from one side of Michigan to the other, called the Michigan Shore To Shore Riding And Hiking Trail (STS).
The STS travels through some of the prettiest parts of Michigan and, for the most part, it is little known and hiked, though there are a number of trail rides each year organized by an equestrian group, called the Michigan Trail Riders Association (MTRA).
I spent 19 days hiking the trail from Oscoda, on the Lake Huron side of the state, to Lake Michigan, where the trail ends in Empire. I didn't see a single person on the trail in those 19 days.
This book was inspired by that trip, but is really more than just my hiker's day journal. There's a whole chapter, for example, about the history of the ice trade and the part that Michigan played.
Another about the lumber industry. And then there is fishing---I love fishing!
I wrote this book to take you with me on a virtual hike of this gorgeous trail (even if it's just from your favorite reading spot) so, lace up your boots and let's hike!
